John Madden Retires From Broadcasting

No matter how cynical we can get with age (wisdom?) No matter how "Punk Rock" there's MANY of us with fond memories and HUGE influence from our kid-hood, of a favorite "coach". When I hear phrases like "..the American dream!" and "...he just loves what he does!" and "...ask him to do it, he's always fair!" and "...I've been very, very, blessed." (whatever "blessed" means) and "...lucky enough to always do what I loved the best!" "It don't get much better then this!"..etc; those kind of phrases TRULY apply to John Madden. You may not like football or apple pie or entertainment of the "talking head" type or INFORMATION (news) of the "talking head" type, but if all those were to be judged, John Madden takes it ALL hands down. I wish we had a John Madden on the socio/politico front; someone that actually has EXPERIENCED what they're "talkin' about!" And when they haven't, they say so. If they give an OPINON, they SAY SO; if they don't understand something, they SAY SO and while still reporting it. The phrases "Just a regular guy" or the idiomatic "A REAL American", (that's as jingoistic as it gets and now associated with ignorance, bigotry and neocon nationalism) those phrases have been SO abused, it's hard to put them in a positive prospective; but when I can, I can think of John Madden.
